演色性指數（color rendering index; CRI），是一種描述光源呈現真實物體顏色能力的量值。CRI不直接表示一個光源表現的顏色（顏色是與相關色溫CCT有關），而是取決於光源的光譜。人眼可以感受到的光譜波長範圍一般是落在360 - 400 nm~760 - 830nm，牛頓把光譜分成7種顏色：紅、橙、黃、綠、藍、靛、紫。光源的演色性越高，其顏色表現就越接近理想光源或自然光，也就是說，在太陽光的照射下，物體能呈現出令人賞心悅目的顏色。重視色彩表現的行業，如護理、攝影、電影等，一般都偏愛CRI較高的光源。
